Garage door motor

Hi all. I should be moving house, very soon. The new house has a garage door but I want to attach a door opener to it. I have fitted many garage doors, and repaired the openers' too. I used to use CAME for operating gates and they were ok, good helpline as well!

Thing is... what type to buy? Any suggestions on make and any problems I could be facing?

Can it be attached to any garage door etc?

I had a lot of feedback, when I asked about generators' and I HOPE that the page will still be there, on the old forum BUT, either way I will be posting what I have found out to be the way for me to install one, when I move.

regards...

  • Is this an up-and-over metal door, or a roller door please? Or something else?

  • Hello Chris. Good question!!! It's an up, and over, door.

IF, I move there I will let you all see what I will do with a generator, (using your feedback some months' ago as my guide). There is a 6mm / 10mm SWA, (you can just see the SWA beneath the window... coiled and ready to go, running from behind the garage, (used for a 'hot-tub' now disconnected. The owner is an electrical contractor and the wiring / tubing, in the garage, is amazing what he had his apprentice install!!), to the front of the house so, that could be used for the generator supply. Obviously, I'll cover this later.

    Thanks, regards.

  • If it helps at all, we've got a Hormann one - I didn't particularly choose it, it just came with the replacement garage - but it seems to work and hasn't caused any bother in the 5 years or so we've had it, if that's any kind of recommendation.

Only weak point is that the larger remote control seems to like ingesting dust (perhaps my fault as it's often in my DIY work trousers) and went a bit unreliable for a while - but a clean out seems to have fixed that. The smaller one on SWMBO's car key ring hasn't given any trouble.

  • Hello Andy, thanks for that! I'll look that make up.

    Cheers!!
