DRIVE BELT FOR BOSE WAVE CD PLAYER AND CLANSMAN MILITARY RADIO

I have a Bose Wave CD player and combined radio. The CD player is erratic. It sucks the CD in with a bit of a struggle and then the CD plays with difficulty. I striped it down and cleaned everything but my fault diagnoses is the tiny rubber drive belt is stretched and soggy. I am looking for a replacement but have been unsuccessful. Does anyone on the forum know of a source of supply?

Whilst I am on a roll something even more diverse. I am looking for a Clansman radio 7 pin audio socket. I want to make an adapter lead up to use a Clansman headset on my Yaesu FT 857 amateur radio transceiver.

Thanks in anticipation.

  • What sort of size drive belt? Usually small components like that are pretty generic and ones sold for one particular make/model of appliance are identical in many others. If it's say around 25mm diam I'd look on Ebay for something like "dvd drive belt" and see if any suggested for a XBox look like they'd fit.

  • As for the Clansman socket - Google found this: https://mullard.org/products/racal-clansman-7-pin-audio-socket (the picture looks more like a 3-pin to me, but it might be just 'indicative of the range'). Or if it's basically a "Mil Spec" bayonet 7-pin connector - I might look somewhere like RS - e.g. https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/mil-spec-circular-connectors/8139960

  • Morning Andy

It is a tiny belt and would probaly fit around a pencil. Been looking on Ebay but cannot see anything that small.

  • maybe an o-ring would do the job?

  • Have you tried bose? Silly I know . I had mine repaired by a company I found by search engine

Thanks I am thinking about buying a box of O rings from Screwfix.

I saw that 2 pin socket when I was searching. The RS one is the one I want but not at that price. I may wait for an Amateur radio rally and buy a scrap Clansman personal radio and rob the socket off of it.

Nice to see your reply as I have not seen you on here for ages.

  • eBay sells packs of various sized rubber belts for old cassette recorders. Maybe one of will work. O rings may be too stiff. I have bought various packs very cheaply.

  • Thanks I am thinking about buying a box of O rings from Screwfix.

The problem with boxes of O rings is that whilst you have plenty to choose from, none of them is the correct size. Rolling eyes

  • John,

Have you tried posting your query here -

  • If you know what size o-ring you need, you could buy from a supplier such as this https://www.polymax.co.uk/o-rings/
