Cost for New Substation

Hi

I work on a site supplied by 2 substations,  each at 600A per phase

The subs are quite heavily loaded.

Just as a rough guide...  what would be the complete cost to install a third substation of a similar size?

  • Hmm that will depend where it is, how much ground work is needed, if the HV lines already go where they would be needed or if they too need to be upscaled. The DNO should be able to advise. And the biggy of course - are these DNO transformers or customer private ones ?

Some of the DNOs do publish indicative charge information - this is quite an old doc from EON but gives some ideas. Click here

The problem is you could take numbers from pages 8-10 of that doc and easily find they double or half depending on the specific requirements  of your site, and it is pretty much ten years out of date.  I suggest sitting down when you call the DNO. Be prepared to not blink at £50k.

    Mike.

  • Thanks for the reply...

I seem to remember when we had our second sub that the DNO didnt want to know...

And we finished up having to pay for the full build..

and the amount from memory was about £120K

But that was about 10 years ago...

  • Spookily I have a job on my desk at the moment that involves the provision of a new £800kVA sub station that the estimated cost is the thick end of £110000 excluding the cost of the new LV switch room.

  • Thanks John

    Just what I needed.....

  • looks like I need to update my mental estimates, I'm clearly a factor of 2 behind the curve.
