PIR for pump control

Hi all,

I’ve setup for a pump (300w) to be switched on/off via a PIR or similar device for a fountain, there’s a separate PIR that activates the in-ground lights, is a PIR suitable for switching an inductive load i.e. the motor in the pump? Is there a motor rated motion sensor / PIR available at 230v ? Any suggestions gratefully appreciated!

    Some PIRs are rated for inductive loads like large discharge lamps, and might tolerate a small pump. I would be inclined to use a standard and cheap PIR that operates the pump via a relay.

    Thanks, yeah a relay could be the simplest option!

    That might work.... but I've had 'fun' in the past whereby the snubber network around the relay in the PIR passes enough current around the contacts that the slave relay won't drop out!
