Hazard of umbilical cord/cable for EVC

Notified of this repair, is there a hazard with EVC's ?. Message - "I just need a cable replacement fitted to an existing tethered box having damaged the original."

I can envisage a potential problem.

  • Possibly - although perhaps covered by some provisions of the product standard for electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), BS EN 61851 series - with a tethered cable, would have to be a Mode 3 or Mode 4 charging point, and these should be prevented from closing live conductor contacts unless the pilot 'communication' has been established with the vehicle. If you damage the cable, and don't plug in the vehicle / initiate a charging session, the risk ought to be minimized?

From a heart attack when you tell them the price of the replacement?  https://evonestop.co.uk/products/type-2-tethered-cable-16-32amp-3-6-7-2kw-j1772-5-metre?variant=40494358084 given the customer will think it's just a bit of flex...

  • The most likely problem I can envisage is careless users not stowing the cable neatly when not being used resulting in it being driven over.

That’s much more likely than stampeding cattle running amok.
