Installation AWA conductors in parallel.

I will be installing the following circuit to supply an LV Distribution Panel:

8 x 240mm AWA single core conductors (2 cables per phase + neutrals connected in parallel)

To be installed on ladder in trefoil formation for a distance of 40m, then ducted for 20m in 2 x trefoil sets of 100mm single-way ducts and 1 x 150mm duct (for neutrals) installed in the following formation as per GN6.

Is this correct formation, with regard to the phase sequence, or should the conductors be run in phased groups.

  • You are fighting opposing aims - heat would like you to spread the cores out, but inductance says to get flow and return currents as close as possible to cancel magnetic fields where ever possible to reduce the reactive voltage drop.

Your idea is correct but Quarafoil 1,2,3,n bunches are worth considering if there is a credible chance of significant neutral current.

Purists would alternate which phase is top in the triangles / quads but that is not such a great issue. What we do not want is all the L1s together and all the return current 2 feet away ;-)

Do realise that when you connect the armours at the ends, there will be some current in the armour loop, and allow for that in the cable rating and the the thickness of the gland plate.
