The problem with the customer buying deep backed dimmer switches.
The cheap ugly fix is a surface mount box. The nicer, noiser and more expensive involves the angle grinder, the hammer drill, vacuum and a hammer and chisel to tidy up, then the plaster or ready mix filler.
Sort of thing that can be farmed out to the customer if they are the keen DIY type as it can be a right faff..
