The problem with the customer buying deep backed dimmer switches.
The cheap ugly fix is a surface mount box. The nicer, noiser and more expensive involves the angle grinder, the hammer drill, vacuum and a hammer and chisel to tidy up, then the plaster or ready mix filler.
Sort of thing that can be farmed out to the customer if they are the keen DIY type as it can be a right faff..

Or you (or the customer) could make a dainty wooden surround to hold the switch off the wall to end up with some thing like these little bread boards.
Just give them the options. Chop the wall out or get a different switch. It aint your problem.
I had similar this week where customer has just had a new kitchen fitted, all decorated out then wanted those bleedin awful screwless flatplate sockets fitted.2 had USB points on as well. Absolutely no chance of fitting them in 25mm back boxes, especially as it wasn't going to be tiled either.

Have you just been round to my daughter's house?
So folks, why not put in 35 mm boxes as a matter of course?
The kitchen sockets were all existing, it was just changing the faces so all already in place. Saying that in this world of dot and dab i expect everybody quotes to screw a 25mm box to the wall rather than chop in another 10mm unless asked otherwise. On private jobs i usually have a word with the customer before starting and see what they have in mind.
