Part P outside 13 amp socket outlet Notifiable?

Hi

I just wanted to check if the following is notifiable under the Part P regs:

An installation of an IP rated 13amp twin socket, to the external front of the house near the front door in a domestic premises. Circuit is extended from an existing ring main, which in turn is protected by an RCD 30ma. A minor works cert has been provided for the install.

I am assuming as it is not a special location or a new circuit it is not notifiable ?

Just checking to see if that is right as I have seen a note in the Part P document that discuss external installations being Notifiable?

Thanks

Billy

  • Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, see below an extract from the Part P document, am I reading it correct?

  • England dropped quite a few of the bits required for notification purposes some years ago whilst Wales stayed with it. So it might depend where you are as far as that is concerned.

  • That is true. Part P does apply to those areas, but Part P merely states that all electrical work must be done to ensure safety.

That is It in its entirety.

However, you are confusing Part P (above) with Regulation 12 which states the notification requirements in England (Schedule 4 still in Wales) and Approved Document P which contains the actual legislation (in shaded green areas) plus a lot of "guidance".

It has only been seventeen years.

  • "It has only been seventeen years." I know a Building Contractor type who had no idea of CDM regs over a longer period than that, he will not be alone. So it all counts as "new fangled regs" Geoff Wink
