What are your thoughts regarding safety on this equipment cable entry?

My first post!

Got a new piece of equipment to be fed from 63A/80A single phase supply.  Requires at least 2x 3C cables entering sized at 16mmsq (H07 type).

Glands wont fit, no cable strain relief...

Thoughts appreciated.

  • Where is it going - I may be happy with something like that pushed  tight to feed into  a section of  trunking or something else with a tight gap, or perhaps out of reach or in a locked box but on its own it on sitting the table top it  looks 'finger nippin good'  to paraphrase the KFC chap..
And also what holds the lid on ?

    Needs more investigation.
    Mike.

  • This could be installed in a 19 inch rack in a datacentre, or a plant room or even in an office.  This one was intended for a room accessible by office staff.  Was not keen on putting one there.

  • agree with your unease.

If the makers are not helpful  then how about fitting some stuffing glands that suit the cable into a metal or thick plastic sheet that fits inside the box to make a giant rectangular washer?

(Gland Hole diameter and ranges of cable sizes

    M20      10-14
    M20      Flat Wire 1.5mm Sq
    M20      Flat Wire 2.5mm Sq
    M25      9-14

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  I thought about the metal / plastic sheet inside the box. From memory the 3c16 cable are 28mm diameter, the cable entry box is 35mm deep.  The gland required is 40mm and the internal gland nut is 55mm across flats. Not enough room.

I have considered using 6x1c double insulated singles (probably H07 again) but even that won't comfortably fit.  I have at least 2x 3c cables to go into the equipment. I don't like using singles in this type of install either.  Looks poor, costs more and takes longer. However sometimes you have no choice!

I believe this type of kit has been installed inside another locked power distribution enclosure before, using external strain relief, and I could just about accept that.

This version is stated as being able to be installed free standing or in an IT rack.  I don't agree with the manufacturer on this and I am gathering opinions just in case I am being unreasonable.. Thinking
