Emergency Lux Levels in fornt of a DB

Good morning

Excuse my question if it sounds a bit naive

What is the Emergency Lux Level we need in front of a Distribution Board?

I always thought this was a case of 15lux (high risk area) however checking again BS5266 I cannot verify it unless its in front of my eyes and I am missing it.

Thanks

  • Do you need to have any fixed source of  light at a DB at all ?  I've certainly stood in front of some where to bring your own  torch  was an essential pre-requisite.

I assume this is in a building which already has electric lights, but I suspect many outbuildings, basements, service tunnels etc are not lit to any recognized  standard as they are not occupied areas or routes to or from other places

Candles when I were a lad. And you had to replace the fuse wire.

  • It's quite well hidden. "and adjacent to main control equipment associated with the provision of normal and emergency lighting.

  • Ah yes - so not all DBs, just the lighting ones. Which makes sense - there may not be any lighting ones in some situations - indeed sometimes it may not even be in a building at all in the conventional sense.
