18TH EDITION CORRIGENDUM

I see that the IET issued a press release on a forthcoming Corrigendum to the 18th Edition to be found here:

Sounds interesting.

  • So, does anyone know what constitutes a firefighting lobby?

  • So, does anyone know what constitutes a firefighting lobby?

It's defined in Approved Document B2, and BS 9991, I understand

  • So protected corridors have been removed from the scope of 422.2.1. That's good, if actually intended.

  • No 422.2.1 applies to protected escape routes. This has not been changed.

  • The corrigendum now specifies equipment "shall not be installed in a firefighting lobby. shaft or staircase of a protected escape route" - this does not include "protected corridors" which may form part of the protected escape route.

It is contrary to the rest of 422.2 which generally applies to the full definition of a protected escape route.

In my opinion, it's not clarified this clause but confused.

  • Hi Elizabeth, was this recorded at all? Just wondering if it will be available to watch anywhere as I couldn't make it live.

  • I see the Wiring Matters article regarding the Corrigendum confirms that 'protected corridors' are no longer within the scope of 422.2.

  • Hi  I've asked the question and I'll post back here when I've had an answer.

  • Good evening all
