Hi all,
Planning some CPD and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for courses, formal or otherwise, covering either of the above? Not planning to be a fire engineer or a MCC designer, but I could do with a better foundation.

Intruder Alarms, a real pain to learn about. I did an Honeywell Course once. To say it was basic was being kind. Finding someone to teach about alarms is somethng I've never seen. It seems you learn about these with on the job training, and reading through the 300 page manufacturers instructions (one of the Honeywell Commercial alarms has a 400 page handbook.)
Fire Detection is possible on your own, but, a copy of 5839 is something ridiculous like £3000.
The FIA do a series of courses, I did look into doing some, but other things got in the way, and I dont think I would benefit much from it now at my age, though it would be nice to know.
I've recently took a turn in direction, and learning about ASHP's and their design, TBH, I'm enjoying it, some of it is quite difficult to grasp, but I see a big future for them, and with the cowboys out there grabbing the Government Grants, and doing a poor install, there is going to be a market for fault finding and system optimisation.
