European grid sorry if I asked this before

I was trying to find information on my local OCGT generator and by chance ended up on a site with a map of the UK and European grid it looked like the euro grid now is connected to the Russian grid I can't beleive that true any of you know? I was told once that the frequency stability of the Russian grid was so bad that joining it to the euro grid would be impossible also with all that's going on in the world it would be a bad idea

  • This world map

From Wikipedia shows the various synchronous areas. There are several DC bridges (not shown)  but since early 2022 the transfer to and from the Russian network has been limited and then spent much of the recent time switched off.  Ukraine used to be Russian synched but  is now running more or less in sync with Europe, and has both exported and imported power to from the west since then.

  • I didn't think there was a permanent connection between the European and Russian grids - in fact I gather than the Ukranian system has been switched from the Russian to European grids. As I understand it there was initially meant to be a test disconnection from the Russian grid early in 2022 - just for a few hours to prove that Ukraine could control its own system - but it was delayed by Russian request and actually happened just a few hours before the Russian tanks rolled in... with the result that Ukraine ended up connected to the European somewhat sooner than originally planned.
