Is there a constructional standard for those cables? If not, see Regulation Group 511 and associated notes ... and also therefore it is unlikely to be included in BS 7671. See Table 4A3, all cables listed have a constructional standard associated with them.

Appendix 4 doesn't have full information for a number of types of cables in common usage including:

• SWA where the armour is used as cpc, or is connected in parallel with internal or external cpc.
• H1Z2Z2-K (BS EN 60618 Solar PV cable)

There are descriptions about how the tables can be used for cables with similar construction (e.g. see item 2.4 in Appendix 4) ... but of course there are limitations.

Interesting - the EarthSure version seems to have a G/Y covered c.p.c. but is still the same overall size as normal T&E with a bare c.p.c., due to a having a thinner sheath of improved material. Doesn't comply with BS 6004, but  they seem to have negotiated BASEC approval.

I think the Irish already have T&E with an insulated c.p.c. (and possibly a full size c.p.c. as well) - which is presumably to suitable IS - and therefore likely to be directly acceptable to BS 7671 under the 'appropriate standard of another country' clause.

That's a possible route for conformity with BS 7671, as long as there's a constructional standard that meets the requirements of Reg Group 511 in not leading to a "declaration" or "departure", but it not being a UK national standard it's likely no data would be included in Appendix 4 for that cable type (if indeed it were different tables to BS 6004).

The Irish stuff has BASEC approval, and as such would be OK here without further testing.

Note that the one illustrated is polythene, so less of a poisonous smoke risk than vinyl - no hydrochloric acid gas created - just sooty smoke and  a smell like rather a lot of candle wax.

Not if there's a national standard from another country (based on IEC standards), that's a constructional standard.

I'm guessing it does - AFAIK nowhere else has a standard for T&E with a reduced c.p.c. that's "identified" with a G/Y covering that doesn't quite make it as insulation (the Irish one I suspect has full sized c.p.c.s and proper insulation).

I'm guessing BASEC approval doesn't make up for the lack of a construction standard as far as BS 7671 certification is concerned? Though probably takes the sting out of the paperwork if BASEC have already shown that it's "provides at least the same degree of safety".

I've been chatting with the guys at Doncaster Cables on these.

I recived copies of the relevent data and Basec approvals, so included them in EOM.

Even if they dont go in to BS7671 you can stil design with and use them.
