I am hearing from my network that the DPC for AMD 4 went on line this morning and is available on the BSI website.
JP fires starting gun for a very long thread?

Make everything more concise. i.e reduce the pages. Section 7 takes over half the book now, reduce it down. Take out the stuff that is rarely relevant, and replace it with 'see guidance from manufacturers and the IET website'. (who really reads, as one example, Annex b82 on page 389, and also all the other pages around that chapter?)
Stuff like that could be in a Guidance Book (GN12+?), in fact that would probably be better, as the technology is moving faster than 7671, so a £50 book update every year or two, on a specialist subject, would be better than updating it for the 19th edition, with that info already out of date when the 19th is published. PEN devices in the last edition spring to mind, 7671 isnt keeping up, so take a step back, and refer, in 7671, to current Guidance notes and books.
It has become far too complex, and needs to be reduced in size rather than increased with more amendments and additions.
Morning Alan
Some countries publish their Wiring Regs. in parts, however the sum of the parts is more than the whole UK book.

I think that could be a better idea if constructed properly. Sections 1 to 6 as the main part, 7 and 8 in different sections could be a better option. Sec. 8 will certainly be added to in the 19th, but will that be up to date? I doubt it, as new technology is happening, indeed, we had the BEAMA update recently saying they'd prefer battery storage outside now, whereas almost all installations had them inside before, and they are still being installed internally.
Smaller Books for the Chapters in Section 7 would be a good idea. How many people refer to Section 740 in their work? Maybe 50 people in the UK, maybe less? Why do we all have to read through it for the exam, when, in our working lives it will never be relevant.
Sections 1 to 6 are all relevant, yet only a few parts of Sec. 7 and 8 are relevant for the vast majority of people. Concentrate on the core safety requirements, leave the peripheral sections to Guidance Notes.

Coming soon to electrical installations near you !!! It will become mainstream in the not too distant future.
BUt splitting things up is really a good discussion ... just buy what you need ... but it would likely increase the price (you can look up the prices for the German version of the Regs as an example)

Fair point ...
Is the DPC held as six separate documents on the BSI site? (or have I been confused by the search results?)
(the last one sounds more like AMD3 than AMD4)
- Andy.
Just the first 4 in your search results.
Ah, thanks Graham!

Perhaps publish what is relevant for domestic or light commercial (including 3-phase) separately from the heavy industrial stuff?
Compared with other British Standards, BS 7671 is a real bargain, but I suspect that more copies may be sold than all of the other standards put together.
Hi, I'm really struggling to even get a result searching for BS7671 using the link on the IET site. All I see is the draft for part 8 of a long while ago? Could anyone post a working link please?
Thanks in advance,
Marc
We're about to take you to the IET registration website. Don't worry though, you'll be sent straight back to the community after completing the registration.
