Arc Fault Detection Device without rcd

You are missing a “R” in the catalogue number. Should be ARR932U for the rcbo feature. £198 a pop according to Hager website prices, small wonder they are slow to catch on. 

That explains why there is a wholesaler selling them on eBay for £35 including P+P.

If the contractor installed them, and intimated they were RCBO's, then what did their verification paperwork say and indicate on their protection device test results?

I presume if they have recorded disconnection/trip times on their paperwork then those results were "False"?

they did provide an EIC at my request ,this had the trip time as 11mS .

i can only think these must be fabricated results.

and where they are designed to be installed to?

There are maybe a few situations where arc fault protection might be useful but an in-built (presumably 30mA A-type) RCD might be inappropriate - maybe another type of RCD (e.g. B, S or F) is needed so more easily provided by a separate device, or maybe large protective conductor currents mean that an RCD isn't wanted at all but some form of extra fire protection would be useful (perhaps some industrial processes especially in area with flammable dust etc).

ahhhhh. This is the true effect of demanding paperwork from installers instead of someone else inspecting. In the old days we knew it had not been tested. Now we are far less sure.

Both of those links bring up the same thing,  we have now asked the contractor to install the ARR versions.

i do wonder how many of these have been fitted thinking they have an (RCD) rcbo element,though of course proper testing would find this.

So to me that would be classed as an untruth and improper and false deleration, which has been signed by a so called "Competent" person and making an untrue decleration.
