Would You Be Interested in an IET Wiring Regulations Course?

If you work in the electrical industry, you’ll know how important the Wiring Regulations are. They’re the foundation of safe and compliant installations, and staying up to date is essential.

We’re considering launching an IET-run Wiring Regulations course that takes you through the latest edition of the IET Wiring Regulations book. The aim is to help you understand the regs in depth, prepare for the exam, and feel confident applying them in real-world scenarios.

Before we make any decisions, we’d love your input. Could you please spare a few minutes to give us some feedback: Wiring regulations feedback form – Fill in form

  • I'll put my tin hat on. Personally as a 57 year old domestic only electrician ( started apprenticeship at 16, self employed for 35 years ) I don't think I need to understand the regs in any more depth than I already do for the most part.I do a lot of CPD through various ways without really trying . I suspect 90% of what is in there is irrelevant  to what I do and would find a full course boring. I am not interested in Solar or EVs etc at my age.  The most I have got out of any of the courses other than the old 2391 I did in the late 90s was actually on update courses which I found very useful for reminding me how to use the regs book if I needed to look something up which to be honest is rare as I do the same stuff all the time. Anything I am unsure of I ask on here or other forums.

Slightly off topic but I have had a couple of apprentices over the years and they found it very problematic getting evidence for their apprenticeships because I only do domestic work.  I think domestic only qualification would work as I can't think my situation is uncommon.

  • Spot on!

But you are young, and I dare say that you will have to wait at least 10 years for your state pension.

I would not be daunted by installing an EVCP, but solar is another matter: do you fancy clambering around roofs at your age?

  • Definitely not Chris. I struggle enough clambering around inside them these days as it is. It's not a great trade for the knees although knee pads are much better these days now you can wear them as part of your trousers.
