Three years ago, I stepped into the role of Chair of the Central London Network Committee, a position that has been a rewarding leadership journey. Over the past 36 months, I have had the privilege of organising about 30 monthly events, each one a testament to the dedication and innovation of our team. From Space Technology, Cyber Security in Railways through to Solar Farming, our events have not only educated but also inspired a community of enthusiasts and professionals, allowing us in staying true to the IET’s vision to Inform, Inspire and Influence!
One of the most significant achievements during my tenure has been the growth and development of our team. When I first took the helm, the committee was a close-knit dedicated group. Today, we have a robust team of volunteers, each bringing their unique expertise and passion to the table. This expansion is allowing us to tackle more ambitious events and reach a wider audience.
Our team's collaborative spirit has been the driving force behind our success, and I am grateful for their unwavering commitment, it is only right that Mathew Davies gets credit for being a tremendous Vice Chair and his dedication will see him through the next few years as the new incoming IET Central London Network Chair.
Each event we organised was a learning experience, both for the attendees and for us. We learned to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of technology, from the rise of facemask technology, AI to the evolution of human centric engineering. Our events have featured industry leaders, academics and cutting-edge topics, ensuring that our community stays at the forefront of technological advancements. The feedback from our attendees has been largely positive, and their enthusiasm has been a constant source of motivation (and guidance).
As I look back on these three years, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and a bit of nostalgia. The journey has been filled with highs and lows, but the camaraderie and shared vision of our team have made it all worthwhile. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me and the committee.
When you are ready to volunteer, please contact Xen Christodoulou (Chair of the London Network), Mathew Davies (Chair of the IET Central London Network) and the very helpful IET liaison officer, Sandra Lucy, by visiting the London IET EngX website, to find out about our next event and come and meet the team in person.
Here’s to many more years of innovation and collaboration by the #IETCentralLondonNetwork.
