Envision – Low Voltage visibility
Sibani Panda, UK Power Networks
Detailed ‘visibility’ of the network is a key enabler in the achievement of Net Zero transition. As more renewable energy sources connect to the network and more people switch to electric vehicles and heating, having exact data means accurate planning for targeted investment in infrastructure across the network at the right time and in the right places.
Moreover, different methods were explored wherein UKPN (UK Power Networks) data can be used to model demand and enhance the visibility of our Low Voltage (LV) network. In partnership with CK Delta Envision a software-based machine learning tool is being developed that will model energy demand generate greater Low Voltage (LV) network insights faster and cheaper compared to traditional methods of physical monitoring. By maximising utilisation of the existing network before approving asset-based solutions, it can be ensured that solutions deployed today are appropriate for meeting the problems of tomorrow. The project is a key step to widening the flexibility market and building a smart grid that enables cleaner, greener energy resources to connect quicker and at lower cost.

Building a Net Zero Energy Future –
How can I get involved?
Aijuan Wang

On 27 June 2019, The United Kingdom passed a law to reach carbon emission Net Zero by 2050 and became the first major economy who has a legally binding CO2 target.

To achieve a country wide whole system across all sectors net zero by 2050, the energy sector must take a lead role to decarbonise the industry from generation to transmission, distribution and consumption. Dr Aijuan Wang, the presenter will take you through multiple pathways of how Great Britain could transform our energy industry from where we are today to a net zero well before 2050, exams pros and cons of the four different and credible future scenarios, analyse likely changes required in the GB electricity trading arrangements, new services and products National Grid designed to facilitate the rapid increase of renewable energy whilst maintaining a secure and stable power system operation to supply decarbonised electricity.

Energy transformation brings many opportunities and challenges. Aijuan will share some thoughts on how an electricity consumer could get involved not only to reduce energy bills but also contribute to a big picture of the carbon net zero.
