Project X At NZ International Science Festival Dunedin 2018

The Bi-Annual NZ International Science Festival is held in Dunedin during the school winter holidays and this year it is spread over 11 days with around 20 events on per day at various venues over the city. Within hours of the booking website opening, Project X was fully subscribed with young people from across the city and visitors booked in. As two firsts for Project X, this was an event outside schools and secondly organised solely by the IET with three IET member supervisors and three others from local businesses Delta and Downer. Technical Social Visit to Stoke Bruern and Blisworth Tunnel.

Several committee Members and guests arrived early at the Boat Inn at Stoke Bruern. Early so as to avoid traffic delays at and perhaps try some local some bru-ha-ha. At noon we boarded the Indian Queen to enjoy a trip through the Blisworth Tunnel with the ship’s captain and our narrator. The Grand Union Canal was built in the late 1700’s but stopped either side of Blisworth hill so loads had to be taken by horse drawn cart over the hill. It was decided to build the tunnel which was started in 1793 and, after many mishaps, the tunnel opened in 1805. However there was no tow-path so men had to walk the barges through, laying on their backs and “walking” on the roof of the tunnel. Bradford Science Festival 19th To 22nd July 2018

This year's Bradford Science Festival that is being held at the Science and Media museum looks to celebrate the wonders of engineering. There will be a range of fantastic activities, demos and games for all the family at the museum, across City Park and at The Broadway. The IET west Yorkshire local network will be attending the festival and will be located within the Engineering marquee on 21st and 22nd of July. IET SA & NT Young Leaders Professional Networking Event took place 3rd July 2018. The event celebrate the efforts of young professionals in engineering and technology who are leading in their field. An opportunity to network with South Australia’s future CEOs and decision makers. There were 35 attendees from a mix of industries, defence, building, power generation, utilities. Main Network Group

The Surrey Local Network, which is made up of nearly 5,000 engineers and technicians in and around Surrey, is managed by two groups, the main committee that meets six times a year and an events operations group which meets on an ad-hoc basis. The Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) Chatham has the responsibility of providing training for the Army’s future engineers. Through a partnership with Greenwich University, Holdfast and Mid Kent College, the Professional Engineering Wing (PEW) of the RSME provides the training and exposure to students of the Clerk of Works Electrical courses. The course offers a Foundation Degree in Electrical Engineering Management with modules aimed at Electrical Installation design, Facilities Management, Contract Management and Project Management. For the 9th concecutive year The Cyprus Institute organized the Solar Car Challenge 2018, on Sunday, 24 June 2018. As I work at the IET and I come from a family of IT specialists (my siblings all work in the IT industry too) I like to think that I have a pretty good grasp when it comes to most things IT related. Who claimed the coveted Railway Quiz Trophy for 2018?

The IET Railway Network Quiz challenged the teams knowledge of all aspects of the railway industry – in a quite demanding way! Hosted by our quiz-master Peter Sheppard, the IET Railway Network Quiz night is an annual event that takes place at Doggett’s Coat and Badge pub near Blackfriars Bridge and we supplied a free buffet which was sponsored by wsp. Pi Wars 2019

Pi Wars is an international, challenge-based robotics competition in which teams build Raspberry Pi -controlled robots and then compete in various non-destructive challenges to earn points. The competition takes place over a single weekend and prizes and medals are awarded at the end of each day. In previous years, we've had teams from schools, families, groups of hobbyists and solo roboteers. We can take up to 76 teams over the event weekend, which takes place in Cambridge, UK . The competition is open to anyone from around the world and is run by the same team that organises the Cambridge Raspberry Jam .
