  • 25th Anniversary Celebration Event: Cocktail Reception - From Hong Kong Local Network

    One of the major events of IET Hong Kong Younger Members Section (YMS) 25 Years Anniversary, The Cocktail Reception was successfully organised on 20 August 2016. All YMS committees and friends for celebrating the past achievement of YMS and anticipating the up-coming development as a group of energetic Young Professionals.Over 80 participants including ex-YMS and current IET Hong Kong committee members and representatives from academic institutions and engineering institutions joined this celebration and shared the happiness.        The theme of YMS anniversary, “Breakthrough 25 Years”, is aiming to walk a step further from serving young professionals and connect with external societies and people in need.   • National Women in Engineering Day - The Big Discussion

    The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and Royal Institution of Charted Surveyors (RICS) held a diversity event and discussion on 23rd June to celebrate National Women in Engineering Day (NWED).   • Futuristic ‘Hyperloop’ Train Could Make London-Manchester Journeys In Just 18 Minutes

    A futuristic trainline dreamed up by the man behind Tesla could slash UK journey times and is connect cities in the north to the south. The supersonic rail system, dubbed Hyperloop, is the brainchild of U.S. billionaire Elon Musk and is currently in the early stages of development. Tests in the Nevada desert have seen speeds reach 116mph, but it is hoped they will one day get as high as 760mph. Read more...

  • Exciting news!! Set up of the IET Functional Safety Group in New Zealand!!

    Hywel the key volunteer for this group first came up with the vision to form a community around Functional Safety in mid-2015 and the group has recently been set up.  Purpose of the group is to promote sharing and understanding of Functional Safety to foster learning and development. The have formed a committee and the group is based in New Plymouth, Taranaki, the activities will mainly take place there.  The group is attached to the IET Auckland Network so they will work closely with each other. The technical group plan to organise a series of presentations by members or vendor with a variety of topics such as Alarm Management, SIL Determination and Machinery Functional Safety..etc Watch out for their events and we will keep you posted through the IET NZ Networks webpage and IET event notice

    One of motorsport's most acclaimed designers, Gordon Murray, has produced a vehicle that "ranks above anything else I've ever done". The Ox is billed as "the world's first flat-pack van" - a two-wheel drive, off-roader made of marine plywood that can be assembled by non-experts in under 12 hours and travel 1,000km (620 miles) without filling up.     Patients will be able to diagnose themselves on their smartphones under plans to modernise the health service to be announced today.   • Present Around The World (PATW) Asia Pacific Finals 2016 In Sydney

    IET flagship event - Present Around The World Asia (PATW) Pacific Finals 2016 has been successfully held in Sydney on 27 th August 2016. There were in total 8 university students and young professionals, who came from Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan, having already won their local competition.     The IET Northumbria Network would like to draw your attention to two forthcoming events that we will be sponsoring: International Conference for Students of Applied Engineering (ICSAE), 20-21 October 2016 at Newcastle University, heavily supported by our On Campus group. Prestige Higginson Lecture - "Simulating smoke for Hollywood" , 16 November 2016 at Durham University, delivered by guest speaker Rob Pieké, Head of Software at MPC, a world-leading visual effects studio in London.   • Speaker Highlight - Radio Propagation And Technologies For 5G

    We are delighted to share that Professor Hamid Aghvami FREng, FIEEE, FIET  will be a keynote speaker speaking at the  Radio Propagation andd Technologies for 5G .  Hamid Aghvami joined the academic staff at King’s in 1984. In 1989 he was promoted to Reader, and in 1993 was promoted Professor in Telecommunications Engineering. He was the Director of the Centre for Telecommunications Research at King’s from 1994 to 2014. Professor Aghvami carries out consulting work on Digital Radio Communications Systems for British and International companies; he has published over 550 technical journal and conference papers, and given invited talks and courses the world over on various aspects of Personal and Mobile Radio Communications.     Today, we have for you, the final two speakers details for our event taking place on 14th September: "Intelligent Industrial Automation in Factories and Elsewhere ” by Professor Duncan McFarlane.    Professor McFarlane has been involved in the design and operation of industrial automation and information systems for twenty five years.  His research work has been in distributed, intelligent industrial automation, reconfigurable control systems, resilient control, RFID integration, track and trace systems, IoT and valuing industrial information.  In 1993 he was a founding member of the Holonic Manufacturing Systems consortium examining the role of distributed AI in manufacturing control for the first time.
