An interesting day out. After less than 2 minutes’ instruction I was in charge of an 8 car Desiro train doing 100mph! OK, maybe I overshot the station by 4 car lengths, but I didn’t go through any red signals! My fellow drivers had it worse though, in a very short space of time they had cracked windscreens, road vehicle incursions, driving rain, thick fog and heavy snow. So, September has been and gone, and as October brings the start of the 2016-17 session, I thought I would take a little time to reflect on our recent activities and highlight some of our successess. We have had some absolutely amazing events this year and I'm very proud to have been involved with each of them, working with our fantastic volunteers and staff colleagues. We have collaborated with UKRAS Network, Imperial Hackspace, KTN to name but a few. Our speakers have come from far and wide and so have our delegates. We’ve two excellent speakers in Vanessa Lawrence and Ralph Cordey presenting on Remote Sensing satellite Systems for Global Sustainability on 10 October 2016 in London. The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Brunei Darussalam Network held its 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Saturday, 1 st November 2016 at Radisson Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan. The AGM received the Chairman’s Report for the Session 2015/2016 and the audited account for the Session 2015/2016 from the Honorary Treasurer. In the AGM, the Office Bearers, Management Committee Members and Auditors for the term 2016/2017 were elected. The new management committee is comprised of professionals from both the government and private institutions. It's that time of the year again, the start of a new session, but before introducing you to our new Chairman for 2016-17, I'd like to take a brief moment to look back at our flagship event that took place in March. I've already blogged about it so the details have been shared, but as it was such a fantastic event, and happened largely as a result of our past Chairman, Ronaldo, and our incoming Chairman Ian, (more of whom below), it is worth looking back. The event, Advanced Manufacturing And Functional Materials , was attended by over 60 people. On 28th October 2016, the Wales North Local Netwrk hosted a lecture at Coleg Cambria, "Third Ammendment to BS7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations". The event was in two parts, around forty students in the afternoon and ten members in the evening. Our speakers were Mark Coles and Linden Smith from the IET and in the evening the event ended with a lively Q&A session. Many thanks to Mark and Linden for providing us with a most enjoyable day.
Once again, the Wales North Local Network was pleased to award the annual prize for "Engineering Excellence" to a student at Coleg Menai. This year, our winner was Nia Povey Jones who was nominated for her achievements in "Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair". We wish Nia all the best in her future endeavors, the event took place at "The Celtic Royal Hotel" in Caernarfon on the 13th September and was attended by around forty students, their families and college staff.

So, as Septemember draws to a close, I am starting to look ahead to the new session. The first thing to do is to introduce you all to our new Chairman who will take over the reins from Stewart Taylor officially on 1st October.
