  • Highlights from ICDP 15

    Papers and posters presented at the 6th International Conference on Imaging for Crime Detection and Prevention are now available on the IET’s Digital Library . Watch the presenations on IET.TV . The conference took place in July at Queen Mary University, London and was attended by researchers, industry professionals and students working in the field.   • Visit to University Technical College, Cambridge

    On Thursday 15th October 2015 Mick Ross visited the new University Technical College, Robinson Way, Cambridge CB2 0SZ, at 8.20am and gave three x 25-minute talks/workshops and one-to-one sessions, to four groups of between eight and fifteen 14-19 year-old student apprentices. The idea was to provide students with a greater insight into Engineering career opportunities. It was one of four STEM initiatives at the college for career events from September to December. At the sessions, Mick gave an overview of 'What we do' at the IET, and let them know the value of C Eng, I Eng, Eng Tech and ICT Tech registration with the Engineering Council, and the 'Routes to Registration'.     Date: 1 st Oct 2015 Venue: ABB Malaysia, Subang Jaya, Malaysia by Ir. Chang Yew Cheong Technical visit to ABB Malaysia was held on the 1 st Oct 2015 (Thursday) and attended by 5 IET members and 6 non-members. This visit was organised by the IET C&A TPN and IET Malaysia Network. All participants arrived at ABB Malaysia Office before 9.30 am and the visit started with the safety briefing and introduction about ABB Malaysia at their meeting room. During the presentation, participants were introduced to ABB operation and business portfolio in Malaysia and were told that the first ABB power generator was installed in Malaysia dated back in 1904 by MFO Oerlikon.   • Visit to Llangollen Railway

    On the 15th October 2015, a group of ten IET members and non members visited the Llangollen Railway. The purpose of the visit was to see the engine sheds and whilst there we saw the maintenance work being carried out on "Foxcote Manor" and amongst many other things the project to restore the last remaining "Patriot class" locomotive which will be named "The Unknown Warrior". The project has been endorsed by the Royal British Legion as the new National Memorial Engine which will play a part in the events in 2018 to remember the end of the First World War.
