    Despite the distractions of the current situation, the IAF Student Paper Competition again had a very good level of entries this year; our thanks are due to all the students and their supervisors who helped make this a very high-standard competition. The BIS would also like to extend its thanks to the IET for co-sponsorship and adjudication, and to UKSEDS and the Space Universities Network (SUN) for assisting with the judging.  On 2 May, three undergraduates and three postgraduates faced this intimidating panel of judges in the UK final.   It will be immediately apparent that, this year, the final had to be an online event.   • Annual General Meeting 2020 Postponement

    Dear IET Queensland Members, Due to CoVID19 restrictions, your committee wishes to advise that the AGM, previously planned for 29th May 2020 is postponed until further notice.  The committee would prefer the AGM to be an in-person event and thus it is not possible to set a new date at this time. We will endeavour to provide at least a month’s notice prior to the rescheduled meeting.  We are considering the option of reverting to the previous format for this year and we welcome feedback from members regarding possible formats for the AGM when it is held.     On Tuesday 7 th March the IET East Midlands welcomed competitors from around the region to Derby Roundhouse to compete in the IET’s presentation competition for students and young professionals (open to anyone aged 18-30 with a passion for engineering). The night was a great success with 6 insightful topics explored by the enthusiastic speakers. A wide range of areas were covered from electric transportation and the environment to block chain technology and artificial intelligence. It was refreshing for the audience to see engineers with such a wide field of interest, even outside their respective industries.     IET members can read and download a range of engineering textbooks from Knovel , the Library's ebook service. If you are looking for engineering reference material, or would simply like to expand your subject knowledge, the IET Library subscribes to nearly 300 engineering books via the Knovel ebooks service.     Swinburne Sarawak IET (SSIET) On Campus hosted a dinner in September 2019 to celebrate its achievement in winning the IET On Campus Group of the Year Award (GOTYA). The dinner also served to appreciate the effort by each committee member throughout the term, as well as to network with the advisors and newly elected committee team. The dinner was held at Rock Road Seafood Restaurant, Kuching, Malaysia. A total of 33 members attended the event: 2 advisors, 12 old committee members, 17 new committee members, and 2 alumni.     It was good to be back at Coventry Transport Museum for the third time with the ever-popular IET Electrification in Motorsport event back in March. Surrounded by one of the world’s largest collections of historical British vehicles, it’s hard to imagine a better venue to showcase the future of racing.There was a good number of delegates at the event and it was heartening to see so many young professionals from both industry and academia.  The seminar saw a range of speakers from leaders in the world of electric racing, as well as technical specialists and academics covering all aspects of advanced electric powertrain systems.    The result was a day of presentations which covered Formula 1 and Formula E through to the upcoming Extreme E championship as well as the design of motors, electronics…

    20 April 2020 – Amid the Covid-19 situation in Brunei, The Institution of Engineering Technology Brunei (IET) Brunei Network support our healthcare frontliners by utilizing their engineering skills.Members designed and build 4 Stainless Steel Mobile Boot Rack which can accommodate 80 pairs of boots for Ministry of Health, Brunei. The ceremony was held at Minstry of Health and was presented by Vice Chairman, Ir. Dr. Siong Tang. Also present was Major Farhan and Haji Amrinal (IET Brunei committee management members). The donations are part of the IET commitment to actively support and assist the Ministry of Health in managing the COVID-19 outbreak in the country and for the care of its healthcare frontliners.
