    Tour of Williams Formula 1

On average Williams F1 builds 7 chassis per season over a 30-year history – that’s a lot of cars, so what do they do with them? Perhaps one of the most prized possessions in the team’s armoury, the Collection is somewhat revered by everyone at Williams F1 and provides a suitable destination for some of the finest Grand Prix cars ever built once they’ve served their term in the sport Following last year’s successful visit, we are organising a tour of Sir Frank Williams’ private Williams Grand Prix Collection (the largest of its kind in the world, spanning the history of the Williams Team since 1978) at Grove in the early evening on 24 th June 2015 The tour will comprise:- - Refreshments on arrival - Introduction and Preview Video - Escorted tour of the Collection - Technology Room displays of…

    RNIB's Request For Support

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is looking for specialists in IT, and for one-to-one trainers who can help others become familiar with 'getting online'. They are looking to build a small team in the Portsmouth and Isle of Wight area, as part of RNIB’s "Technology Support Squad". The number of people aged 65 and over accessing the internet has risen by more than a quarter in the past year, driven by a three-fold increase in the use of tablet computers to go online. But what if you are affected by sight loss? It's just the same! There are thousands of gadgets that can make living with sight loss easier. Being able to use computers, mobile phones and other gadgets for work and leisure are key tools for blind and partially sighted people. Keeping in contact in rural areas where…

    IET Singapore Rail Section 2015

About the event: CBN plays in a key role in ensuring reliable voice, data and video communication between various locations on the MRT such as Stations, Depot(s), Operation Control Center(s) and Sub-stations. The CBN is used not only by the Communications Systems but also by other systems such as SCADA, AFC and Traction Power to support their communications needs between respective systems at various locations. The CBN has to accommodate a variety of interfaces from analog voice to Ethernet and varying data rates from a few Kilobits/sec to several hundred Megabits/sec. Another key aspect of the CBN is its resilience, reliability and availability. During the talk, Hin How will briefly explain the various CBN technologies and the evolution of implementations specifically in relation to the MRT…

An Experienced Perspective Of Cyber Security.

An experienced perspective of Cyber Security to include analysis of Out of Towners whose interests are for economic or other reasons. Theories since have now been actualised. Originally the theories took council from Marxist Model, Human Capital, Malsow and Herzbergs principals. A sample extract of the research findings from my 13 chapter study into Cyber Security is shown below – further theories were identified after the initial questionnaire, from which questionnaire two and three were created to further enhance the study: “ The author has assumed that human capital of an individual can have different meanings such as those reflective of the Marxist model discussed by Foley (1986). The model discusses economist theory where all individuals within a firm represent the same values and views…

  • IoW Schools Hydrogen Challenge

    IoW Schools Hydrogen Challenge

The Isle of Wight Schools Hydrogen Challenge is a hands on, interactive programme of workshops for young people to engage in renewable technologies. The workshops, delivered by STEM professionals, explore the possibilities of a low-carbon future and directly support the curriculum at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 (ages 7 to 16). Our approach engages young people from a variety of backgrounds, at all levels of academic ability. Our Secondary School workshop challenges teams to design, build and race their very own hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Working in a process of iterative design, participants are encouraged to build a car as quickly as possible before racing their design in a test of efficiency. The winning car is the design which travels the furthest on a small amount of hydrogen. Our Primary School…

  • Hannover Messe 2015

    Hannover Messe 2015

Our Chairman, Ronaldo Ronaldo, recently attended Hannover Messe 2015. Here he gives us his personal feedback from the event: Hannover Messe 2015 once again became the forum of discussion and showcase of the development of Industrie4.01 or also deeply associated with Cyber Physical Systems (CPS). Having attended the exhibition, I would like to outline the recent updates on this topic thus far with some personal opinions. CPS and Industrie 4.0 are often used interchangeably in the media and have undoubtedly create some confusion. I'm taking a view that Industrie 4.0, being hoped to be the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is an impact by adoption of technologies such as CPS or Internet of Things (IoT)2. Therefore, for a clarity, this article will concentrate on using the term CPS. During the exhibition…

  • Visit and Presentations at Qinetiq Boscombe Down

Visit and Presentations at Qinetiq Boscombe Down

The Aerospace Network recently organised a tour of the test and evaluation facilities at Qinetiq, Boscombe Down, followed by an evening lecture programme. Tour of Test and Evaluation Facilities After the usual safety briefing, we were welcomed formally by Paul Cheetham (Head of Engineering Governance) who showed a short video about the history and structure of Qinetiq followed by a briefing. I summarise below some points that I gleaned from the briefing. Qinetiq operates Boscombe Down and its facilities on behalf of MOD with about 1600 staff on site – roughly one-third of the UK Qinetiq staffing. RAF staff are also at Boscombe for their operational knowledge and as part of the “Empire Test Pilot School”, one of three such facilities in the world. The others are in the USA and France. The ETPS…

  • Supporting Event - Integrate 2015 Post-Conference Event: Guided Tour To Biodiesel Facilities In Hong Kong

Supporting Event - Integrate 2015 Post-Conference Event: Guided Tour To Biodiesel Facilities In Hong Kong

Date Saturday, May 23, 2015, 10:00 - 12:00 Program Highlights Biodiesel is a clean, low-carbon transport fuel that can be used as a substitute for fossil diesel, or blended with fossil diesel in diesel engines without modification. ASB Biodiesel operates a biodiesel factory in Hong Kong with the capacity to produce 100,000 tons of low-carbon transport fuel per year. ASB Biodiesel's product is produced from waste. Therefore, it does not lead to land use changes. It also produces significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions because it avoids the upstream carbon emissions associated with crop production and seed oil extraction. By visiting the ASB Biodiesel Plant, participants can have a better understanding about the daily operation of the modern biodiesel plant in Hong Kong. Assembly Location…

  • How Complex Can A System Be?

How Complex Can A System Be?

How complex can a system be? "Very" is the answer! Consider the human body and trying to ensure its health. Wednesday 13th May, Professor Nicos Karcanias of City University gave London Central a fascinating lecture that tackled a much higher level of complexity than we are used to! And I believe his assertion that this was a "non-technical" skim over the subject! Of the 100 plus appreciative attendees, there were some who'd wanted more depth - that would have fried my brain... Who would have guessed that the Ancient Greeks were working on the same problems, defining terminology that has stood the test of time? Look up Kallicratides if you really want to confirm that... Systems come in all shapes and sizes: some harmonious and others less so. Think of a family household or of dance in a singing…

  • Sacred Cows - Event Review

    Sacred Cows - Event Review

The Sacred Cows (or “Scared Cows” as the Royal Society of Medicine had it!) went very well on 12 May. The scene was set by Professor John McDermid who felt that nurturing these beasts was better than killing them although we may have to make some hard ethical decisions in the future. This was followed by two speakers from NATS (Simon Brown and Ignacio Mesa) who showed that the principle of Distance Based Separation for flights approaching Heathrow could be changed to Time Based Separation with an increase in capacity and no loss of safety (so the cows are still safe here!) Professor Phil Blythe then looked at the animal from the Automotive and Road Transport point of view and took the prize for the most bovine references and cow animations. He looked at many areas including Managed Motorways…
