Hello EngX Community,

As we wrap up our exciting week-long IET Education takeover, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and engaged with us. It’s been a fantastic journey showcasing the incredible work we, along with our education volunteers do to promote STEM engagement to children and young people.

To recap, Alexandra Knight CEO and founder of STEAMAZING shared her Guide to Inspiring Young Minds: How to Give an Engaging STEM Talk to School Children, and we asked those of you that do go into schools and give talks to inspire the next generation to share your insights and experiences in our discussion.

We also heard from Fairfield Control Systems and how, through volunteering in STEM education with the IET, they work to encourage the engineers of the future and Karyn Sansom shared what ‘a day in the life of’ is like for IET Education Volunteer in Back to school isn’t so bad after all.

Inspired? Below is a summary of all our programmes and details of how to get involved should you wish.

FIRST® LEGO® League

One of our standout programs is FIRST® LEGO® League, which offers hands-on STEM experiences for children aged 4-16. If you’re passionate about inspiring the next generation of engineers, consider becoming a mentor. Mentors play a crucial role in guiding teams through their projects, offering advice, and sharing industry insights. To sign up as a mentor, visit our volunteering page

IET Faraday® Challenge Days

Our IET Faraday® Challenge Days are another highlight, providing an annual competition of STEM activity days for pupils aged 12-13. These events offer real-world challenges that help develop practical and employability skills, including teamwork and problem-solving. Schools can enter their students for these exciting challenges and even run their own DIY Challenge Days. For more information, check out our Faraday Challenge Days

Join Our Team of Education Volunteers

Our IET Education Volunteers are the backbone of our outreach efforts, bringing real-life engineering experiences to classrooms and youth groups. If you’re interested in joining this dedicated team, we provide all the necessary training and support. You can find more details and sign up on our Education Volunteers page

IET Learning Resources

Lastly, we offer a wealth of IET Learning Resources that can be used both at home and in school. These resources include lesson plans, hands-on activities, and videos designed to engage students in STEM subjects. Whether you’re a teacher or a parent, these materials are a great way to inspire young minds. Explore our learning resources to get started.

Thank you once again for being a part of this incredible week. Let’s continue to inspire and ignite the passion for STEM in young people everywhere!

Best regards, Harriet
