It involves taking all the different components that make up a transportation system, function as a cohesive whole, from physical and technological up to social dimension, delivering a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation experience.

    In maritime transport, for instance, this involves designing, building, and operating ships and her related services. Systems engineers here play a role in developing efficient and sustainable maritime transportation networks including ships, shore systems to support the maritime navigation and connections in between.
