CEng

Dear Sir

Chartered Engineer (CEng) offered from IET is equivalent to CEng from IPEA??
  • Do you mean IPEA or rather IPEM (Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine)? If the latter then it is a fairly straightforward question. The IET is a Professional Engineering Institute (PEI) licenced by the Engineering Council (EC) and grants CEng under that licence, so registrants are CEng with the EC rather than the IET. Similarly the IPEM is a PEI licenced by the EC and registrants gaining CEng through them are registered with the EC in the same way.

    Sorry can't help any further.

In which case, again don't understand the question as this IPEA ( or rather International Engineering Alliance) don't award CEng?

    Thanks,

    Andy

That's right as already stated it's only the Engineering Council (EC) that awards CEng, IEng etc through its licensed agents.

Of course it's all a guessing game, and I'm assuming that IPEA wasn't a typo. The IPEA is an alliance of regulatory engineering bodies such as the EC in the UK. Some of these bodies also award Chartered Engineer registration to their qualified members. So Raja probably meant to ask: is a UK registered CEng equal to Chartered Engineers from other IPEA member bodies?

Hope I get some brownie points for this?

Well Andy, I was more hoping to get my 'forum reply level' moved up from level 5 to level 6.

By the way that gold trophy badge of yours looks worth aim for. I just hope I don't have to fill-out any forms and attend some sort of interview to get it.

    Cheers

Sorry, I need to correct an error I made above. The IPEA is an agreement (and not an alliance) made by the engineering member bodies (such as the ECUK) of the International Engineering Alliance - IEA. That agreement allows recognition of UK Chartered Engineers as being equivalent to engineers (CEng|PEng|PE) from other IEA member countries, but a UK CEng would need to register as an IntPE with the ECUK in order to gain closer international recognition. There may be some detail(s) that would require to be fulfilled, such as passing an exam in Law in a respected member country in order to be able to fully practice independently in that country. The IPEA was previously known as the Engineers Mobility Forum (EMF).

I should add that Chartered Engineers registered with the ECUK would need to meet the following requirements to qualify for IntPE before considering employment as CEng (or its equivelant) in an IEA member country:
