PATW-2015

It was quite gratifying that 37.5% of the entrants to the Present Around The World local heat, held at Intel in Swindon on 24th February, were female.

As one of the judges I would like to thank all the entrants for a wonderful range of topics, well presented and reasonably well researched.

  • Paul, we'd also like to say a big thank you for agreeing to be a judge and supporting this event. Like you, I was impressed with the quality of presentation and range of topics. It was very encouraging that we were able to fill all eight available presentation slots. The PATW competition was one of my first introductions to the IET (then IEE) and therefore I hope last night's event will encourage our presenters to also further engage with the IET and take advantage of some of the great opportunities it offers.

Sounds like a great event with an impressive number of applicants. Well done guys!
  • The Regional Heat at Intel in Swindon (June 23rd 2015) again saw a fantastic line-up of very capable young presenters. Another wide selection of topics across the seven participants and

it made for some difficult decisions in applying the markings. Well done to all who presented their talks.

Congratulations go to Jemma Rowlandson who won through this heat and will go on to the National Final in Manchester. We wish her luck at that event.

  • I'd also like to add my thanks to all the presenters and judges at last night's South West Regional final. All in all a very enjoyable and informative evening.

  • Some very complex topics covered enthusiastically and knowledgeably. I look forward to Jemmas' winning presentation at the National PATW final on July 11th at the Radisson in Manchester.

I think it was quite fitting that Jemma gave the best all round performance on the evening – especially that 23rd June was National Women in Engineering Day (NWED – www.wes.org.uk/nwed)  – a fantastic day to celebrate the achievements of women in engineering and with Jemma’s presentation I am sure we will be hearing about her contributions for many years ahead.  Well done to all for making the evening so vibrant and enjoyable.

Whilst I would also like to add my congratulations to all who participated in making this a fantastic event we must not forget that none of this would have been possible without the tremendous effort that Paul put into the event preparations. Thanks Paul, great job well done.
