Tell everybody, who you are, what you do and who you would like to connect with.
  • Gerry - had to respond :)    I am a manufacturing (mechanical) engineer who went the other way - into Quality.  So there are some of us out there - but yes a rare breed!

    Welcome to the group.

    Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the group and thank you very much for your support!

Its great to read that you have had a positive infulence on women working in engineering.

Feel free to contribute to / start any discussions.  I promote Women's Network events on this platform so, let me know if there is anything that comes up in the future, that you would be interested in attending.

I'll e-mail you regarding mentoring / coaching opportunities!

    Best wishes,

    Jo Foster.
  • Hi,

My name is Liz and I'm a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leeds researching telecommunications during the First World War.   The project I'm working on at the moment is "Innovating in Combat: Telecommunications and intellectual property in the First World War" and more details are available on our project website at blogs.mhs.ox.ac.uk/.../

My undergraduate degree was in Computer Engineering and my background in engineering informs my work, whether it is an understanding of the underlying engineering principles or an engineering approach to research.  Much of what I research is history of engineering and I use the skills I gained as an engineer on a daily basis.

I guess I am evidence that a degree in engineering can lead to some pretty unusual places!

I joined the IET in 2009 when I began my PhD in history of science - I had been to a few IET events prior to this and was working on material held by IET archives as part of my PhD.  I have made good use of my membership, regularly attending IET events and I became a member of the IET History of Technology committee in 2011.

  • Hi,

I'm Nicola and I studied Electrical & Mechanical engineering at uni. I'm now working for National Grid in Warwick as a gas transmission network analyst on the graduate scheme.

Would happily meet up with any local ladies and if anyone has particular experience or advice about going for chartership that'd be really helpful.

    Thanks!
  • Hello Aanuoluwapo,

I have a similar background to yourself :) I got my masters degree from The University of Manchester in Advanced Control and Systems Engineering. I work for Siemens Rail Automation in Chippenham (Near Bath)...and our graduate scheme is open for applications. Find the link below

    Hello everyone,

    Nice to be here!

My name is Aanu Adeyemi and I am just finishing my Msc in Automation and Control in Newcastle University with a first degree in electronic control systems. Still fresh out of university and currently looking for an engineering opportunity in any industry.

I'll also be pleased to meet any other female engineers in/around Newcastle smiley

You are more than welcome, James.  We have a number of men on this group and activley encourage more men to join in order to gain a more balanced view and also make them aware of some of the topics that are being discussed!

    Kind regards,

    Jo

    Hi, I'm Alison

I live and work in Derbyshire in the UK. I have been in the aerospace industry for almost 13 years years now, but am not yet chartered (something that I'm hoping to rectify this year!). Although I enjoy my work and gain satisfaction from doing well and progressing in my career, having 3 young children makes the work-life balance a constant struggle: when I'm at home I feel like there something I should be doing at work, and when I'm at work I feel I should be at home with the kids! My employers are very supportive regarding part-time and flexible working hours, but it never takes away the internal struggle that I find plagues many women.

Would be happy to meet up with any local members :-)
