Burying redundant cables in a wall

I have a customer who wishes to remove the redundant storage heater points and plaster over. The house has recently had a new CU (not by me) and and gas central heating and the now redundant storage heating cables are left gently blowing in the wind in a cupboard. Wrapped in duct tape. Nice. Instinctively I do not like leaving redundant cables lying about and I certainly don't like finding them. However, as I will be able to identify both ends of said cables what is the general view to cutting them off in the cupboard and plastering in the old storage heater points?
  • I don't see it's going to be practical to completely remove them - so chopped off and plastered over at both ends (or otherwise make obviously unused) seems reasonable.

  • Agree, burial and abandonment is IMO fine provided that the supply ends are cut off short to prevent any ill informed attempt at re-use. The load ends would preferably also be insulated before burial, "just in cases"
  • They could have been converted into single sockets. I'd just fit a new blank plate over the old storage heater points if they really aren't needed, then perhaps slosh a bit of emulsion over them. Job done. Mr. Perfection me!

  • Thanks all, that's what I'll do then. She wouldn't accept blank plates Zoom!
  • BS 7671 is silent on the matter 'cos they aren't part of an electrical installation. Therefore do what you like, although I must admit that leaving cable runs in situ can be a bit worrying - how does anybody know in the future that they could not become live?
