JIB gold card

Hi everybody

I ve done my qualifications in England between 2000-2003 part 1, part 2 and testing and inspection 2391 and 16th edition.

later I did 17th edition , 18th edition, installation and maintenance of small scale solar photovoltaic system,

and design and verification of electrical installation (Level 4)

The company I was working 7 years ago I had a gold conditional card

After I went self employed and I ve been told that I can only have card as Electrical Labourer.

so the same person can have a gold card in condition or no.

I am working full time as an electrician, testing and inspection engineer

Is any way I can get gold card?

Regards

  • Hi there

At the time I was going for JIB Gold Card recognition in 2012 I had completed the G&G Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installation and also the C&G Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2391).

I had not gone through an apprenticeship (although I had been an industrial service engineer) so, after contacting the JTL training people, I eventually chose a company called Electrotechnical Assessment Services who put me through a programme of assessment of various jobs over a year.  I paid the £900, or whatever it was, and they came to assess a number of examples of my work.  With that year completed I was then able to apply for the JIB Gold Card.  This meant, to the industry at large, that I had gone through a suitable practical assessment programme (similar to an apprenticeship - the AM2 path usually) and so had the required experience to begin all types of electrical work.  Clearly, that was only a start. Expertise in the various types of electrical systems only came with actually working on them.  However, the JIB rating is a pretty decent accreditation to have in electrical work.

I've attached the literature I was sent at the time.

    Hope this helps a bit
