JIB gold card

Hi everybody

I ve done my qualifications in England between 2000-2003 part 1, part 2 and testing and inspection 2391 and 16th edition.

later I did 17th edition , 18th edition, installation and maintenance of small scale solar photovoltaic system,

and design and verification of electrical installation (Level 4)

The company I was working 7 years ago I had a gold conditional card

After I went self employed and I ve been told that I can only have card as Electrical Labourer.

so the same person can have a gold card in condition or no.

I am working full time as an electrician, testing and inspection engineer

Is any way I can get gold card?

Regards

Paul

  • AFAIK you need NVQ3, that was certainly the case a few years ago, oh yes you need to sit their H&S exam too

    Hi all,

I'm under the impression that 2391 and 18th edition are level 3... the only thing I can think of is needing the AM2 or what was, I'm in the same position, I hold all certs except AM2

Any further help with this would be good to see the outcome.

    Thanks
  • Hi there

At the time I was going for JIB Gold Card recognition in 2012 I had completed the G&G Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installation and also the C&G Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2391).

I had not gone through an apprenticeship (although I had been an industrial service engineer) so, after contacting the JTL training people, I eventually chose a company called Electrotechnical Assessment Services who put me through a programme of assessment of various jobs over a year.  I paid the £900, or whatever it was, and they came to assess a number of examples of my work.  With that year completed I was then able to apply for the JIB Gold Card.  This meant, to the industry at large, that I had gone through a suitable practical assessment programme (similar to an apprenticeship - the AM2 path usually) and so had the required experience to begin all types of electrical work.  Clearly, that was only a start. Expertise in the various types of electrical systems only came with actually working on them.  However, the JIB rating is a pretty decent accreditation to have in electrical work.

I've attached the literature I was sent at the time.

    Hope this helps a bit

  • Hi all and thanks for your helpful replies,

My point is, that  it is not fair for people with so many years of experience and so many qualifications,

this is not enough to fulfil the criteria.

From the other hand apprentices with the only evidence,

photos taking on the side, and no experience to fulfil.

As I said before the same person can assessed from a company and get the gold card conditionally

    Suppose to be something different.

    Regards and thanks again
