  • How many words should it take to describe the condition of an electrical installation?

    Andy B.
  • Really good question Andy. Particularly difficult for some whose penmanship is not sharp enough to give a succinct description that embraces the fundamentals of the outcomes of their assessment. I completely re-arranged my own EICRs to allow individual comments to be made against each item inspected. However, I still endeavour to give a summary. I studied law at QUB where we were honed in the art of being a wordsmith (obviously went over my head) but when completing reports I still have a serious pause at Section E!
  • Between three and five?

Nope, 1 apparently. "Satisfactory", ask any estate agent.;)

Rarely “satisfactorily”, the phrase “safe to use” seems more appropriate.
  • I recently saw an EICR for a bungalow with one consumer unit that ran to fourteen pages with thirty seven observations and the summary of the condition has a continuation page.

It says: “The wiring of the installation is generally in a good condition, however (see continuation sheet).”

The customer read that and but not the continuation sheet or the rest of the report, she read “good condition” and stopped at that.
