Energy bills set to go up almost £100 for 15m households after Ofgem raises cap | Daily Mail Online

  • I agree that this is outrageous Zoomup. It is an almost 10% rise in the average bill when gas and oil prices are at a low level. It is probably to pay for the £1500 per MWh being paid at times because they didn't have any wind, which is not the consumer's problem, it is the "Green idiots" who should be made to pay, say the PM and wife! More attempts to collapse what is left of the economy. The question "what regulator?" comes to mind, talk about being in the industry's pocket! The regulator should mandate that every renewable source has standby capacity available immediately to replace the wind/solar when this is unavailable. That should sort the renewables problem out once and for all.
  • If you read the BBC News version you'll see that the £94 increase is partly to offset the £84 reduction from last October - but I guess news of a £10 or 1% nett increase doesn't sell as many papers...

  • Is that true, or did you hear it on the BBC?
  • All parts of Borris's girlfriends green agenda. The cost will keep going up too. We have to pay for electric cars and new infrastructure. To save the planet from imminent climate armagedon.
  • In The Times last week a front page article said that new carbon taxes and charges are likely. This is to do with a net zero carbon pledge. This could mean a de faco tax on beef,  lamb and cheese.

At present environmental and social charges on gas are 2 per cent, and  23 per cent electricity bills.

  • I think I can assume that the green gage doesn't include Wales. The BBC reported last week that a company have or are just about to open a new coal mine to supply the local steel industry.

I think its important that we don't get tied up with this self-righteousness in believing we can change the shape of the planet, only volcanoes can do that and they do not follow any green political rules (agenda).

  • 23 percent Zoomup? Just what does that achieve, because from my perspective it just makes Electricity more expensive with negative outcomes on the reliability of supply? It could be an attempt to ration by price, but that would be the most stupid idea imaginable in our society which needs its computers, internet, and technology. If these are not affordable you see the outcome on the BBC daily, screams that "poorer children are being disadvantaged because their parents cannot afford any IT equipment". They probably cannot afford the electricity or heating either! They appear to be able to afford mobile phones etc. that cost a lot more than a laptop. You will be interested that Germany has the most expensive electricity in the world, and is pulling back from wind and solar because they are wrecking the supply system and cost far too much, but then that kind of bad news is never on the BBC. We were promised that renewables would be cheaper than fossil fuels from the beginning of this saga. They are not and never have been, they exist because the playing field is not level, by prices, contracts, and subsidies (hidden or upfront).  One day someone in politics may tell the truth, but not at the moment or any time in the last 30 years! Why tax foodstuffs, that too is green signalling of the worst kind, it is not even true! Without animals farming in much of the UK would cease, particularly Wales, Scotland and the West Country. Here the land and topology are not very suitable for growing crops, but fine for animals as the rainfall and ground can easily grow good grass. This is a serious case of "townies" who know nothing telling everyone else what to do. Perhaps they want to eat Hay, the trouble is that Humans can make very little use of it, and it would cause excessive wind, perhaps to drive home windmills!
  • Dave Stone nails it yet again. Good to see a voice of reason in Carrie's new Green Madness!
  • "One day someone in politics may tell the truth" Steady on Dave, that will never happen surely?
  • David, this type of generation impresses me. I have seen it working at close quarters. It is aprivate hydro electric generating system. The water comes from a loch high up on a mountain. The water is collected rain. There is no pumping of the water back up to the loch as far as I remember. The village us very remote with no mains electrical supply. This system is totally naturally green and very impressive. I have a  photo of the humble turbo generator room somewhere but it is not to hand.

Perhaps one day all homes will have a private source of independent generation like solar panels, a wind turbine or whatever.
