Frustratingly crammed

  • Sorry about the orientation but this is a relatively new replacement board. I don’t know who I am more cheesed off with, Crabtree or the contractor,!

It looks nice and warm, and cozy for rodents or insects.

    Z.

  • Room for two more RCBOs! ?
  • This sort of thing does in my view represent a failing of UK  regulations for equipment design.

AFAIK, similar equipment in say the USA would be far more spacious and easier to wire in a neat and workmanlike way.
  • I recon - every 3phase uk fuse board crammed full of single phase RCBOs is the same?

I agree, looks the norm to me

  • Agreed, we have this natural compulsion for compact athstetics and sometimes this infringes on optimum internal spacings.

They cram more wonderfull things in cars than in the 60s. 70s. 80s, 90s but try getting to them to tweak things.

    Consumer units are the same.

The advent of prolific RCBOs with a N tail (and an Etail) has a lot to answer for.

Compact (shorter height) RCBOs if they work reliably and the very rare double busbar set up (I always wince a bit when I look at the separation distance and flimsy plastic ins though). Result less of a birds nest.
  • It is fairly obvious to me that Crabtree needs to redesign the metalwork to give the normal space found with MCBs. Imagine rather larger cables having to bend into those RCBOs. Hopeless.
  • Sizewise Dave, towards that end I`ve found the BG compact RCBO to help. BUT I`ve found a few faulty devices within a 4 months period from 1st test thru energised
  • PS Ive found the Garo DP RCBO quite good in that respect but I`ve not fitted enough to get any reliable data and their standard In rating is note quite as handy as ours yet.

PS it`s hard to discern without asking them which are fully DP switching and which are single pole switching and solid N - particularly important if you are feeding them from an upstream time delayed 100mA RCCB
