No door bell wiring,transformer or chime installed at the moment.

I can SDS a hole behind the outside push and supply  install SELV wiring to it without much of a problem. No problem with a 230V supply inside.

Hard-wiring is usually better. You can either power the doorbell with a plug in power supply or house a SELV transformer in a small (CU type) enclosure.

As you probably know, Ring is popular but requires a subscription if you want to store the video footage.

Also worth looking at is Blink by Amazon and EZVIZ.

I installed one of these to save needing a separate transformer. It provides 8V and the (mechanical) bell is sounded when the 8V is shorted. I just used an illuminated push button with it, but I believe you can also use it with some smart door bells which charge from the 8V and you'd then get both notification on the app (or whatever) as well as the bell ringing when it's pressed. Easy to install (I was lazy and just wired it to a plug).
