Mixing LV and ELV Cables in the same conduit

What's everyone's views on ELV cables contained within the same pvc conduit as LV . I believe it to be ok if all the cables are insulated to the highest voltage. Not sure I would say it was good practice and not sure about colour coding

  • Hi, I agree it’s ok. BS 7671Table 51, which pertains to the identification of conductors, and the methodology you outlined are addressed in Regulation 527.1

  • I believe it to be ok if all the cables are insulated to the highest voltage.

And the EMC requirements are met where appropriate (Section 444 of BS 7671)

  • ELV cables

I would also like to clarify, that what's been said so far, is OK for ELV power cables ... but NOT for what BS 7671 terms ICT, BCT, CCCB, and PCMA cables (see A444.4 for an expansion of these).

For indoor cabling infrastructure for the above, BS 6701 requires a physical separation of at least 50 mm between power and telecomms (ICT, BCT, CCCB and PCMA) cables, even if the cables are in separate metallic conduit or trunking.
