NICEIC INSPECTION INTERVALS

Clause 14 of the IET Electrotechnical Assessment Scheme allows a maximum interval of 3 years given due risk assessment.

I am inspected annually and have been since in gained membership of the NICEIC in 1986. My first Area Engineer was with me for 25 years and witnessed my family grow up and me lose my youthful looks to the vagaries of time. Two engineers for the last 14 years were always made welcome in my home where I have my office.  Whilst I might be a worthy low risk candidate for 3 yearly assessments, I think I would miss the annual technical kick about with very well-informed gentlemen. 

By the same token I would say more frequent than every 12 month for companies/people who are just short of the pass grade or have had complaints lodged against them.  I hear MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) are looking at a similar system as a CPS. 

Are the NICEIC offering to do the 3 year visits at a lower annual fee? Or will they be trousering the cost savings?

A rhetorical question JP? I didn't get assessed for a period of 2 years a few years ago, due i think to staff shortages. I asked for a refund and got "but you have all the other benefits of being with the NICEIC, branding, prestige....."

Ok for them to delay assessment, but if you don't book it before a year expires they can suspend your registration. So they "trouser" a few days each year anyway.

I’d like to see it changed to three years.  

You may have to wait for the NICEIC response on that one as I think they are currently discussing Heathrow
