    500 Exhibitors and 600 hundred speakers, all under one roof. The CloudExpo event taking place at the world class Excel Exhibition Center in London this week is full of revelations. The arena is broken into 4 ontologies; Cloud Security, Big Data, Smart IOT London and Data Center World. Vendors held their traditional stands and in addition, seated floor space was allocated for speakers to perform open style high octane seminars. Visitors had the choice to attend conferences on super fuelled scheduled topics within dedicated theatres. There were multiple seminars, talks and conferences all taking place at the same time.   • New IET Network To Lead On Internet Of Things

    The concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) touches upon every sector and almost every engineering discipline. It is clear that the IET should have a presence in this area, so the development of a new IoT Technical and Professional Network (TPN) has begun. A scoping event late last year identified a number of opportunities for the IET to support the sector. These include providing a forum for developers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), spreading awareness and adoption, creating a working group and developing partnerships. “There are a great many initiatives and organisations already underway producing excellent guidance, standardisation and technology.     In an evening organised by our YP representative, Georges Anke, the Ottawa LN was introduced to the intricacies of RISComputing and the ARM core processors.  This was held at the RA Centre on the 23rd February. We were fortunate to welcome Graham Eatherley. Graham is a instructor at Carleton University in Ottawa where he currently teaches a group of 3rd years the "ins and outs" of real time systems.  Graham is an experienced researcher and teacher. He worked in the Telecommunications industry for over 30 years and on retirement returned to school to complete post-graduate degrees in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.     Neil Hatton, the CEO of the UK Screen Alliance, is an experienced and well-known figure in post-production and broadcast in the UK having worked in the sector since 1979. He started with a stint in the BBC VT department in the basement of Television Centre. For more than 20 years, he worked at MD/CEO or owner level within post production houses in Soho like Frontier Post and Azimuth. In 1992, he pioneered non-linear editing and became the first person to cut a long-form documentary on an NLE in the UK.     The Grammar School in cooperation with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) organised a Young Innovators Day on Saturday 4th March at the Mall of Cyprus. The event was a tremendous success as a great number of visitors had the opportunity to explore the future through 3D technology which included Robotics, Engineering, Electronic Circuits, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, interactive games, 3D printers, 3D Projectors and scanners.

  • A Mind Blowing Technical Site Visit To Seven Network’s Broadcast Centre In Docklands Organised By IET Victoria

    The site visit was hosted by the very welcoming John Albiston, Head of Broadcast Engineering and Development. John has been with the Network’s Operations for 30 years and during this time he has introduced and led all technology developments from project conception through to execution, including the design, installation, testing and commissioning of the Network’s broadcast centre in Docklands, back in 2002.
