  • Space Skills Alliance - New Projects Launch

    Colleagues at the Space Skills Alliance have asked the Satellite Technical Network to share details of three new projects they have launched on 5 September. The projects are listed below along with links to further information. SpaceCRAFT i s a new space competencies framework from the Space Skills Alliance that provides a common vocabulary for alignment between education providers, employers, and employees in the space sector. The Space Training Catalogue is a new free directory of more than 400 training opportunities for the UK and European space sectors curated by the Space Skills Alliance.   • IET Hackathon - Judges Required!

    We are looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to take part as a Judge in our IET YP Hackathon ! What is the Hackathon? The Hackathon is a LIVE 24 hour event in which 86 teams from around the world have signed up to take part in. It is an entirely virtual event taking place on 24-25/09/2022. Teams have chosen whether they would like to focus on Infrastructure or Software with their solution. They will be set a challenge in which they must come up with a solution to tackle the issue of ‘Dirty Data’ through carbon emissions. This solution, within the Infrastructure stream, could develop the mechanical architecture of a clever cooling solution for data centres.     The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, and 1967? How about The Institution of Electrical Engineers, and 1968? Does it help if I mention the beach at Brighton? A pavilion, or a caravan?   • Engineering Extravaganza events - Yorkshire Region.

    This event, now in its eighth year here in South Yorkshire, was delivered again on the 11th July at the Sheffield Hallam University and for the first time on the 7th July at the University of Hull covering the East Yorkshire region. The South Yorkshire event was a 'sell.out' in terms of a full capacity of schools attending with 163 schoolchildren taking part. The East Yorkshire event had 5 schools attending with around 60 schoolchildren taking part. We were delighted to have the East Yorks event for the first time at the University of Hull who were keen to accommodate this event and their help with facilitation, excellent.     The Tribology Network brings together tribologists to network and hear about new developments in all aspects of the sector from industrial and academic perspectives. We are seeking three new Ordinary Members of Committee for our Executive team, who should be engineers/researchers/students actively engaged in the sector and applications from diverse and international backgrounds are particularly welcomed. The Executive committee meets 3-4 times per year (at least 1-2 of which will normally be in person*) and are involved in organising a wide range of technical activities including a seminar, webinars, external stakeholder activities and setting up two new awards.   • Manufacturing TN Meeting 4th July

    The Manufacturing Technical Network (TN) held its first in-person/hybrid meeting for over 2 years at Savoy Place today. In a lively meeting full of challenge and discussion we finalized details for the remaining 2022 programme of events and started the planning process for 2023. Upcoming 2022 events include Future Roles In Manufacturing, a series of 3 meetings including an in-person networking opportunity covering Digital Manufacturing and a workshop event looking at the Future for Manufacturing Automation. This latter event is being organised jointly with the Robotics and Control & Automation TNs. In 2023 we are very excited to be be supporting an IET Annual Prize for Manufacturing apprentices.
