  • IET/ACostE Project Controls Network Committee 2018

    The Projects Controls Network (TPN) is collaboration between the IET and the Association of Cost Engineers with the aim of providing a Professional Knowledge Network which seeks to educate, inform, and improve the knowledge of Project Controls. The requirement for Project Controls is international and, universal, and cuts across all Technical, Engineering, Financial and Commercial areas. It is a requirement for Government Departments, Corporations, Utility Companies, Transportation, Hospitals, Olympics, Infrastructure Projects, Civil Projects etc. Without the Discipline of Project Controls it would not be possible for Projects and Project Management to succeed.   The committee is made up of volunteers from both the IET and the ACostE.  If you would like to know more about the Network, please…

  • YPS: IET Faraday Challenge In IDA Tech Saturday 2016

    On 21 May 2016, the IET Singapore Young Professionals Section rolled out its Faraday Challenge at Suntec Convention Centre Singapore, for a large-scale event named “Tech Saturday” co-ordinated by Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). IDA aims to educate the public about the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) as a vital nation-building element. The IET Singapore was invited by IDA to organise Faraday Challenge for target audience of youngsters of up to 14 years old. Our Faraday Challenge was adapted from the the IET "Mission to Mars" package. It received overwhelming response from the parents and it was fully subscribed before the event.   • R&S Scope Rider Competition

    Rohde & Schwarz is initiating a quest to find the most innovative and unusual uses for the R&S Scope Rider, the rugged handheld oscilloscope with lab performance and functionality. Since we introduced the R&S Scope Rider we have come across many examples of the different ways in which our customers are using the instrument. This made us think; why not run a competition to search for the most unusual or innovative applications where the Scope Rider could be used? To start the competition we sent an R&S Scope Rider into space with the entire mission being filmed by The Institution of Engineering and Technology’s IET.tv. In fact the UK government has announced robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) as one of the eight technologies that will propel the UK to future growth. The recent capital investment from the UK government through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has resulted in the creation of eight dedicated capital facilities and four centres of doctoral trainings brought together under the EPSRC UK-RAS Network.     The Circular Economy is central to Scotland’s Industrial future, it is widely accepted that the linear nature of product development “take, make, use, dispose” is unsustainable, both economically and environmentally due to the finite nature of essential resources.  There is growing national and international recognition that the circular economy model, where products are reused, repaired, reconditioned and remanufactured rather than disposed of is the only way in which the growing demand for products can be met and as such, the opportunities for industry and academia involvement are significant.     31st May 2016, Tuesday at Lahore Today, on request of Mr.Nadeem Shaheedi IET Executive Member of IET Islamabad Network and on instructions of Eur Ing Tauqeer H Shah Chairman IET Islamabad Network, i as Secretary for IET Islamabad Network met with Mr.Nadeem Shaheedi at his office.   (From Left to Right:  Mr.Nouman Abid Chuhan and Mr.Nadeem Shaheedi) I did mentoring towards his registration as Incorporated Engineer (IEng) on his request and we also discussed about various matters of IET Islamabad Network especially coming event i.e. IET Technical Lecture and meeting of IET Islamabad Network Team Members at Islamabad most probably on August 2016. We also discussed matters of mutual interests.  Our meeting took approximately 2 hours and ended with thanks and good wishes.

  • IET ICRE 2016 Hits The Tracks In Brussels

    The IET 2016 International Conference on Railway Engineering (ICRE) was held recently in Brussels on 12-13 May.  The conference has previously been organised every three years by the Hong Kong Railway Transport Section and aims to provide a forum for sharing knowledge and experience, promoting collaboration among practitioners, and reporting applications of new technologies in railway engineering. The 2016 event was the first time the Railway Network have held ICRE in Europe and centred on the theme of “Enhancing Railway Operations”.
