  • The Senster

    The Senster

I really enjoyed hosting Alex Zivanovic from Middlesex University last week. His passion on the works of Edward Inow~ er, never can pronounce his name, but it in no way detracts from the incredible animal-like kinetic art he has produced. Alex, like Edward, is enthusiastic about his work and the works of this artist, and his expertise in lecturing is evident in his friendly approach. My favourite part of the event was when we had a discussion about cybernetics, both in our respective lounges, and discussed the questions from the Q&A panel box. Watch it again here: Now available on  https://youtu.be/MVGEXSPaO_c

Manufacturers Should Host Their Own Product Data

In this fourth article we move on from talking about what structured data is to look at who owns it and who should control it. So far in this series of articles we have described what construction product data is , how it needs to be connected to standards , and how product comparison is a key example of how structuring your data is essential . Now we move on to the data itself – who owns it? Who should control it? Don’t forget to sign up to the zoom call in a week’s time (link at the foot of this post). Product Data is an Asset In 2006, Clive Humby , the mathematician who made a fortune helping Tesco develop its new Clubcard, said “ Data is the New Oil ”. Humby was talking about how data needs to be refined to be valuable, but the phrase has been used by many since, including by Brittany Kaiser…

    Countdown To Career Manager

The IET team are excited to bring you a new version of Career Manager this month. The current version of Career Manager is now unavailable, but the new system will be available from 20 October. The current version of Career Manager is based on an outdated platform which means we can’t provide enhancements or improvements; so, to enable us to improve our members’ experience, it’s time for an update. This will enable us to improve the appearance and develop new functionality for users making it easier to plan and log CPD or apply for Professional Registration. The new system will have a cleaner look and feel, be more mobile responsive and provide the same Career Manager content in an improved and simplified lay out. For more details on the upgrade, or to find out what is happening visit:  https…

The AHT2020 Event, full title "How appropriate healthcare technologies contribute in a public health emergency" was held successfully on Friday 18 September 2020. It consisted of 3 webinars and the event marked the 20th anniversary of our first IET AHT event. The AHT2020 event “How appropriate healthcare technologies contribute in a public health emergency” was held successfully on Friday 18 September 2020. It marked the 20th Anniversary of our first IET appropriate healthcare technologies (AHT) event. It was originally planned to have a 2-day physical conference and planning was well advanced. • Comparing Construction Products: Dispelling The Myths

Comparing Construction Products: Dispelling The Myths

In this third article about product data for manufacturers in the construction industry we look at the myths around product comparison and ask – why not compare? Product comparison is an essential part of the specification process, yet construction manufacturers can seem reluctant for their products to be compared with those of their competitors’. Why is that? In this third article about product data for manufacturers in the construction industry we look at the myths around product comparison and ask – why not compare? Myth 1: Specifiers don’t want to Compare Products There is some truth in the first myth, because specifiers are creatures of habit, they are busy, and time is tight. The last NBS Specification survey (2017) stated that 60% of respondents were reusing specifications from previous…
