  • Nouman Abid Chuhan:

    Hello

    IET Professional Development Community

My name is Nouman Abid Chuhan HND Engg B.Tech Hons IEng MIET.  I am from Pakistan.  I think that i am the first Incorporated Engineer from Pakistan having B.Tech Hons Degree.  My area is Electronics & Telecommunications and Procurement.  I have been working not only in Pakistan but Saudi Arabia both in public and private sectors having more than 12 years aggregate employment experience.  I am happy that both Engineering and Technology professions are equally recognized all over the world.  But unfortunately, Technology profession could not gain equal status in my country Pakistan as provided to Engineering profession due to professional jealousy of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).  I alongwith my other B.Tech Hons (new name B.Sc Engineering Technology) fellows, continuously struggling but PEC always come in front against us. Therefore career progression is blocked through out the country by PEC and their allies.  Unfortunately IET could also not establish its office at Pakistan and Pakistani IET members could not take full benefits from the IET till yet regarding career progression.  Please dont mind, these are the realities but still i and my fellows struggling and hoping for our good future soon, insha Allah.

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the community.

Welcome to the professional development community, if you're a recent graduate and are interested in professional development then a good first step is logging in to IET Career Manager and submitting an Intent to Register to join the IPD service.  There are some online training films and quick guides available on how to get the most out of Career Manager, or you can just log in and find help through the onscreen text and quick launch tools.

The IET have a lot of great professional development resources to help you such as our online webinars and e-classes, as well as our face to face training courses.  Whatever it is that you are after, I hope that you find some of the blogs and discussion topics here useful - and if you don't find what you are after then do let us know as we are always keen for new content ideas.

    Kind Regards,

    Kathryn Bain

  • Mr Charles Williams:

    Hi everyone!

I've been a member of the IET since I was a student of Electronic Engineering at Manchester University, graduating in 2001. Since then I have had an entertainingly varied career, culminating in joining my family's engineering company, Promtek Limited, in 2009.

I am now the Managing Director of the company and am working hard to embed engineering best practice and CPD into the organisation so that it continues to be innovative and sustainable long after I retire.

Of course, I'm starting with myself, so I'm restarting the process of engaging with the IET and pursuing Chartered Engineer status.

I have joined this community to hopefully be supported and encouraged by others in the same position as me, but also in time I hope to provide support for newcomers to the process.

Welcome to the community Charles. I hope that you find some useful information, but if you do have any questions then please don't hesitate to contact me, or start a discussion thread here.

    Regards,

    Kathryn Bain

  • Sanju - if you contact membership services they will find a mentor for you who is close to you in Nottigham.  go to this web page for more information: www.theiet.org/.../

  • Welcome to the community.

Vikki is correct, if you want to send a mentee registration form we can try and locate a mentor in your area for you.  You can find the details at: www.theiet.org/mentoring as Vikki mentioned and send this to the mentoring team.

If you have any other questions then please don't hesitate to contact me.

    Kind Regards,

    Kathryn Bain
  • You can still ask membership services to find you a mentor - there may well be someone in the UAE who would be availalbe - alternatively membership services may be able to offer you an e-mentoring match - the informaiton is all in the link I posted - and it is the same process through membership services.

  • Rajan Sanju:

Thanks a lot for your replies. At present I am situated in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. I had carried out my education in Nottingham and back here in Abu Dhabi for work.

We have mentors throughout the networks, not just in the UK and do have these available in U.A.E, though it may be through predominantly e-mentoring context depending on where the mentors are based.

Don't hesitate to complete the forms, and contact us if you do want a mentor, or if you have some general questions about professional registration then we would be more than happy to help.

    Regards,

    Kathryn
