    Hi Ian

Thanks for your response dated 28 August 2020.

I am a Mechanical Engineer in the manufacturing industry.  I started training in mechanical engineering in 1971.

I once had a blazing row with one guy (Electrician) who had written that his former employee, a mechanical maintenance engineer, had found the manufacturing industry mechanical maintenance environment too fast paced.   And to me that was complete nonsense because when a machine breaks down it stops and the repair is done when the machine is stationary, that is, not moving.  It doesn’t matter whether the machinery can run very fast when in production but when it breaks down it stops.  So there is no “fast pace environment” in mechanical maintenance.

You are right fixing something by one click is a fairytale.

    I am reading about SMED.
  • I'm Stewart. I'm the Engineering Manager for a company called Centriforce in Liverpool. Coming up to a year in the job, and the challengers have been great but, feel that we are turning around the culture and efficeny of the department. We recycle, and use recycle plastics to make our product. Hopefully, I will be able to share with other manufacturing engineers/product a collection of ideas, that will help us more on, and up our proformance collectively.

Hi my name David Chakonta Iam graduate of Nottingham University in Manufacturing Engineering and Management. I have spent my time in the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training (TEVET) of Zambia. I have held positions of Lecturer and Head of Department Mechanical Engineering as well as technical college vice principal and principal. I also worked for the Zambian TEVET Authority as Director Development and Director General/CEO.

What I would like see/share/learn from the community are practical ideas related to the development and deployment "Work Based learning system simulations" within learning institutions as special purpose vehicles for incubating future design and manufacturing practice entrepreneurs among young people.

    Hi

I have recently joined the IET after many years with the IOM3. I have a materials engineering background and worked as a metallurgist, both here at Siemens and in various Aerospace companies, specialising in forgings and titanium alloys.

I am currently working in the Manufacturing projects team in the New Unit site at Lincoln for Siemens Energy. My latest project involves leading the development of turbine blades for our Aero derivative engines for Siemens Montreal/Warwick.

I am passionate about manufacturing, sustainability and renewable energy. I also feel strongly about diversity and inclusion, whilst always selecting the right person for the role based upon skills.

I have included a link that you might find interesting, featuring my boss Phil Harpham, from when we helped with the Covid Ventilator UK challenge:
