Cable specification for Fire/BMS installation on a large complex site

Hi all

Does any one have a steer on the above? Perhaps any one in the consulting side of things?

BS 5839 Part 1 for normal or enhanced grade of cable based on the design would be the starting point. Obviously, you then have to consider your containment systems

For the BMS - to some extent it would depend on your proposed architecture of the system (eg is it so big that you are using a lot of fibre backbone )

Thanks for that. We are looking at the BS standard. Containment is the next issue as is BMS. At this stage it is a little backwards (reverse engineering!!)

    Thanks for your input.

OK - well the fire detection and alarm system needs separate containment - and as a quick answer, if you have phased or staged evacuation or anything that looks like a stay put procedure for selected key personnel then you will need an enhanced grade as defined in BS 5839-1 (it will refer you to allowable cable standards). Ditto if you need to send signals to any adjacent or adjoining facilities and/or if there are fire and smoke dampers in place that you need to control

Thanks very much. Enhanced grade will definitely be a good starting point.
