EVC & DNO cut-outs

So why wasn't mention of this included in the new EVC 4th ed CoP (sorry if it's in there and I've missed it):

That is the position of one particular DNO.

The guidance for DNO notification is included in Section 11 of the IET EV CoP

Some of the information included in the guidance in the document you have linked to (especially, say, around cutouts rated < 60 A) affects far more than EV charging installations ... and perhaps that's another discussion (along with earthing requirements, which again are NOT specific to the EV charging domain).

I'm sure someone mentioned increase in hot tub installs and maximum demand recently ...

... and it certainly varies depending where you are too ...

I can hear other people saying "any inspector worth their salt" ...

  • I wonder does a 40Amp meter behave with a 60A load. It looks like such a meter is in the photo at the top RHS of page 5.

The assessment of maximum demand is onerous using OSG or GN1 and will likely result in pre-install notification in most situations However, the change in 722 to allow MD to be assessed by accounting for load curtailment or reduction by automatic or MANUAL means, leaves the door open for the hard sell. Taken to the extreme you could claim that the EV represented the maximum demand alone as the householder has agreed to sit in the dark while his car charges! Why wait until the DNO gives the nod when you can have your lovely new charge point with the nice blue glow fitted right now!
  • So really all those 16mm tails are just fine!

I've a feeling the meter's rating relates more to the range of current within which it satisfies a certain degree of accuracy (outside that range it's permitted to be somewhat less accurate) - rather than being it maximum current carrying capacity.

Some are truly bad Mike. Whoever is making those connections mustn’t really care. I once saw tails at a pub intake that had been connected to the meter through the handle of a galvanised bucket!
