Failed EICR

Hi just want to know what you guys and girls do in the following situation.

You've carried out an EICR its failed.

Once the remedials have been carried out do you redo the original EICR so it's Satisfactory?

Or do you fill out minor works certs and give these to the customer along with the original failed report so once cross referenced  it results in being satisfactory.

This has been bugging me for awhile now.

Regards TS

  • You should complete MWCs for the repairs, which are then kept with the EICR. You can’t re-issue the EICR without retesting everything as you don’t know if anything has changed, other than what you have worked on. I doubt you will want to do a free re-test, and I doubt your client will pay for another EICR.

    Regards,

    Basics EICR You Tube
  • Ditto Alan Capon

The problem is that some folks, perhaps insures etc etc will insist on an EICR with a Satisfactory as being all they will consider. Mindless rules . rule mindless brains I`m afraid.

So to do that repeat the EICR all over again and charge accordingly

    That sounds a sensible option

    Alan,

This was my thinking, that way you have a record of findings and supportive MWC to backup any corrective works.

Unfortunately some sparks seem to think just changing the unsatisfactory to satisfactory outcome is sufficient ?

    Ebee,

Had this with a client a few years back I told them to cross reference the MWC with the item no of the original EICR that way it would hopefully make more sense.

    Hi James,

It's always nice to see how others work but like anything I like to do my own back ground checks including coming onto sites like this, cross referencing other publications such as guidance note 3 in this case and then possibly following up with a call to the NIC EIC help line for good measure! ?

  • Failed car M.O.T. test.

    Blown headlight bulb.

Owner takes car away from M.O.T. testing station, renews blown bulb. All now working and good.

Failed car returned to M.O.T. testing station in a timely manner.

Car reexamined by M.O.T. inspector, who issues a PASS M.O.T. certificate. (Or equivalent) free of charge.

Did the M.O.T. inspector test the whole car fully again?

    No.

  • This is what the law says:

    R. 3

    (5) Where paragraph (4) applies, a private landlord must—

        (a) obtain written confirmation from a qualified person that the further investigative or remedial work has been carried out and that—

            (i) the electrical safety standards are met

An MEIWC or EIC satisfies (a) above. The combination of the EICR and MEIWC/EIC satisfies (i). One could put in Part 1, paragraph 5 words to the effect, “The defects reported in the EICR dated xx/yy/zzzz have been remedied and the installation is now in a satisfactory condition.”

As ever, it's a matter of contract.
