LED Battens. live parts Accessible without a tool ?

Any thoughts on the above please. I would think they are non compliant in certain situations as you literally just pull them apart to access the inside.

Gary

  • Is that any worse than a normal UK bayonet lampholder?

  • I would say a class one light fitting is yes.  I know they are generally out of reach but sometimes not.  Is out of reach even permitted on a domestic installation ?

  • It'll be down to the individual product standard rather than BS 7671 - and as we know (from brass BC and ES lampholders to domestic toasters) those standards often differ from BS 7671 basic principles quite considerably.

I would be a bit disappointed for a modern design though if it wasn't still roughly IP2X with the covers removed.

  • Interesting point. I can recall fluorescent fittings whose cover could be removed (after removal of the tube) by unscrewing thumb nuts.

  • Aside from the discussion regarding the normal unswitched B22 In the general case, I believe the minimum requirements of BS 7671 for basic protection are IP2X (or IPXXB), with the requirements of Regulation 416.2.2 noted (IP4X or IPXXD for accessible top surfaces of barriers or enclosures).
